Peach Upside Down Cake

Peach Upside Down Cake

I have holidays from the office on Saturday and Sunday. So, I enjoyed my Saturday very well. On Saturday night, I watched one episode of the Stranger Things web series on Netflix and then went to sleep.

On Sunday morning, I went to Regal Times Square in New York for the 9 AM show of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). After the movie, I had F. Ottomanelli Burgers and then came back home.

I rested for some time. After that, I opened YouTube and watched just two or three videos. While watching the videos, I found a Peach Upside Down Cake Recipe. I watched the recipe and then visited the website to check the list of ingredients and equipment.

When I checked my kitchen, I realized that I was missing a few things. So, I ordered them from a quick-commerce platform. I ordered cornstarch and Greek yogurt from DoorDash.

After getting all the ingredients, I decided to make the recipe. I was really craving cake, so I made the Peach Upside Down Cake.

Now, I will tell you step by step how I prepared the cake.

Peach Upside Down Cake Ingredients

  • Fresh peaches
  • Unsalted butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Granulated sugar
  • All-purpose flour
  • Cornstarch
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Greek yogurt
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • Milk
  • Vegetable oil

Equipment For Peach Upside Down Cake

  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rubber spatula
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Saucepan
  • Cooling rack
  • Parchment paper

Step-by-Step Instructions For Peach Upside Down Cake

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

First, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This gives the oven enough time to reach the right temperature while we prepare the cake.

Step 2: Prepare the Cake Pan

Take a 9-inch round cake pan and grease it well with butter or cooking spray. You can also place parchment paper on the bottom to make it easier to remove the cake later.

Step 3: Prepare the Peaches

Now, wash the peaches well and cut them into thin slices. Try to keep the slices similar in size so they cook evenly and look beautiful on top of the cake.

Step 4: Make the Caramel Layer

Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until the sugar melts and the mixture becomes smooth. This will create the sweet caramel layer at the bottom of the cake.

Step 5: Add the Peaches

Pour the brown sugar mixture into the prepared cake pan. Arrange the sliced peaches on top in a nice, even layer. Take your time with this step because these peaches will become the beautiful top of your cake.

Step 6: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, add the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk everything together so the ingredients are evenly mixed.

Step 7: Mix the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, add the softened butter and granulated sugar. Beat them until the mixture becomes light and creamy. Then add the eggs one at a time and mix well after each addition.

Step 8: Add the Yogurt and Vanilla

Add the Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, and milk to the wet mixture. Mix everything until it is smooth and well combined. The Greek yogurt helps make the cake soft and moist.

Step 9: Combine the Wet and Dry Ingredients

Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix gently with a whisk or spatula until everything is just combined. Do not overmix the batter because this can make the cake dense.

Step 10: Add the Batter to the Pan

Carefully pour the cake batter over the peaches. Use a rubber spatula to spread the batter evenly across the pan. Make sure the batter reaches all the edges.

Step 11: Bake the Cake

Place the cake pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 to 50 minutes. The cake is ready when the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 12: Let the Cake Cool

Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 to 15 minutes. Do not flip it immediately because the caramel layer needs a little time to settle.

Step 13: Flip the Cake

Place a large serving plate over the cake pan. Carefully flip the pan upside down in one quick motion. Slowly lift the cake pan and remove the parchment paper.

Step 14: Slice and Serve

And there you have it. Your beautiful Peach Upside-Down Cake is ready. Let it cool slightly, then slice it and serve it warm or at room temperature. The soft cake, sweet caramel, and juicy peaches make every bite delicious.

Storage Instructions For Peach Upside Down Cake

At Room Temperature: Store the Peach Upside-Down Cake in an airtight container or cover it tightly with plastic wrap. Keep it at room temperature for up to 2 days.

In the Refrigerator: For longer storage, place the covered cake in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for about 4–5 days.

Before Serving: If you store the cake in the refrigerator, let it sit at room temperature for about 20–30 minutes before serving. You can also warm individual slices for a few seconds in the microwave.

Freezing: Wrap individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe container or bag. Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before serving.

Variations For Peach Upside Down Cake

Nectarine Upside-Down Cake: Replace the peaches with fresh nectarines. You can leave the skin on for extra color and flavor.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake: Use pineapple slices instead of peaches for a classic tropical version.

Peach and Berry Cake: Add fresh blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries between the peach slices for extra flavor and color.

Cinnamon Peach Cake: Add ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the cake batter. It gives the cake a warm and cozy flavor.

Almond Peach Cake: Add ½ teaspoon of almond extract to the batter. Almond flavor pairs really well with sweet peaches.

Brown Butter Version: Brown the butter before adding it to the batter. This gives the cake a rich, nutty flavor.

Mini Peach Upside-Down Cakes: Divide the batter into small cake pans or ramekins and make individual cakes. Reduce the baking time and check them early.

Gluten-Free Version: Use a good-quality gluten-free all-purpose flour blend instead of regular all-purpose flour. Make sure the other ingredients are also gluten-free.
